Inauguration

The Odisha State Uder 19 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2025 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mrs. Anita Subhadarshini, MP(Aska); Guest of Honour Mr. Pratap Chandra Nayak, MLA Kabisuryanagar. Other dignitaries wereMr. Bibekananda Sahu, Secretary, Banadevi ITC; Dr. Basanta Kumar Mishra, President, Banadevi ITC; Mr. Pravash Nahak, Principal, Banadevi ITC; Sri Prabhat Kiran Sabat, President, Mr. Krushna Kumar Sarma, Secretary, Ganjam District Chess Association.

The total no of participants (63) from 6 districts had taken part in this event. Thirteen rated players in Open and only six rated players were participated in Girls’ championship. Eight rounds Swiss system league were played with a time control of 90 min. with 30 sec increments from move no.1 for both the championships.

The total prize fund for above captioned events were ₹ 20,000/- (Rupees twenty thousand only). The organiser arranged with FREE dormitory Accommodation and free hygienic food for the players and accompanying for entire tournament period.

The top four (4) players from each category will represent Odisha State in the forthcoming National
Junior (Under 19) and National Junior (Under 19) GIRLS Chess Championships to be held from 16th to
24th December 2025 at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

In the Open category, the top-seeded Candidate Master Harshit Ranjan Sahu from Cuttack, with a rating of 2258, remained unbeaten throughout the championship, scoring 7.5 out of 8 points (7 wins and 1 draw) to secure the Championship trophy and a cash prize of ₹2,000/-. The fifth seed, Soyam Laxmidatt D Sabat of Cuttack, drew with the second seed, Tanmay Talin Behera, and also remained unbeaten, finishing with 6.5 points (5 wins and 3 draws) to claim the Runner-up trophy and a cash prize of ₹1,400. Third-seeded Manish Mishra, 1824 won his final round against Mrutyunjay Mondal, ending with 6 points (5 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss) and earning the Second Runner-up trophy along with a cash prize of ₹1,200/-.

In the Girls category, second-seeded Yashita Rout, a Commonwealth medallist from Khordha with a rating of 1777, delivered an outstanding performance by remaining unbeaten and scoring 7 points (6 wins and 2 draws) to claim the Championship trophy. The top seed, Pratyasha Jena from Cuttack, with a rating of 1824, secured the Runner-up position with 6.5 points (5 wins and 3 draws), earning a cash prize of ₹1,400. Third-seeded Shradha Smaranika Nanda, Cuttack also finished with 6.5 points (6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss), taking home the Second Runner-up trophy and a cash prize of ₹1,200.

All guests, whether attending the opening ceremony, round inauguration, or closing ceremony, are being honoured by the Ganjam District Chess Association. On11.10.2025, 4th Round was inaugurated by Mr. Deepak Bisoi, Social Worker, Kabisuryanagar and on 12.10.25, the 5th Round was inaugurated by Mr. Ananta Charan Das, Branch Manager, Bank of India and Mr. Arya Raj Gopal Dora, Lecturer, OAV Kabisuryanagar.

The championship concluded with a valedictory ceremony and prize distribution at 6:00 P.M. on 13th October 2025. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Bikrant Kumar Sahu, Chairman of NAC, Kabisuryanagar, and Guest of Honour Mr. Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary of the All Odisha Chess Association. Other distinguished attendees included Mr. Pravash Nahak, Principal of Banadevi ITC; Mr. Prabhat Kiran Sabat, President; Mr. Krushna Kumar Sarma, Secretary of Ganjam District Chess Association; IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo, Chief Arbiter; Mr. Gorachand Reddy, Secretary of Kabisuryanagar Chess Association; Mr. Suresh Madhav Kar, Treasurer of Kabisuryanagar Chess Association; and Mr. Dhananjay Sabat, President Chess Parents Association. Their inspiring speeches motivated the gathering, and they presented prizes to the winners. The organizers also deeply appreciated the enthusiastic support from the parents and guardians of the young participants.

The Championship was conducted by Chief Arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahoo, International Arbiter ably assisted by Deputy Chief SNA Binayak Rath and SNA Bishnu Prasad Purohita.
