1st Bishnu Sethi Memorial Open Chess Championship

The 1st Bishnu Sethi Memorial OPEN Chess Championship was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr Pradip Nayak, at Nehru Stadium, Bhadrak on 26 November 2022 at 10:00 A.M. Other dignitaries were Shri Pawan Sharma, Advocate, Social Activist  ; Shri Tusharkant Dash, Advocate, Social Activist; Jyoti Prakash Mohanty, Youth leader, Shri Bhabesh Mohanty, Treasurer, AOCA; Shri Suvendu Mohapatra, EC Member AOCA & General Secretary Shri Ashok Kumar Parija, Bhadrak District Chess Association.

Total prize fund attracts only 81 participants from 7 districts (Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khordha) are participating including 18 International Rated & 9 Women. The Organiser has made beautiful arrangements with free lunch.
 
Important Results: In 3rd round Board no.1 Birendra Raita (10th seed) beat top seed Debasis Chakraborty in 31 moves. Second seed Subhendu Kumar Patra was lost from Suraj Kumar Moharana (13 seed) in 44 moves.

Top 4 players will represent Odisha in forthcoming National  MPL 48th National Women Chess Championship 2022, starting from 26 December to 05 January 2022 at Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Top 2 players from both categories (OPEN & GIRLS) will represent Odisha in forthcoming National Under 13 Chess Championship 2022, starting from 10  to 18 December 2022 at Puducherry.

GIRLS Category:
The 3rd seed Shradha Smaranika Nanda, 1203 from Cuttack, drew with 2nd seed Arushi Srichandan and clinched the Championship trophy with 5.5 / 6.0 points (5 win 1 draw with no loss). The 2nd seed Arushi Srichandan of Khordha became Runners up.
 
 
OPEN Category:
Open category was really hard for all top players. The top seed Shrihan Sabat, Ganjam beat 14th seed Pratik Kushal of Cuttack and clinched the Championship trophy. The 13th seed Sai Shakti Panda beat the 6th seed Pratyush Nayak, Cuttack and became the Runner-up.
 
 
The Chief Guest Shri Satyabrat Minaketan, Founder-cum-Chairman ODM Public School, BBSR, Guest of Honour Shri Prasant RoutPrincipal, Raja Madhusudan Dev Degree College, gave away the prizes.

The Odisha State Sub Junior (U-15) OPEN & GIRLS Chess Championships 2022 concluded with Valedictory ceremony-cum-Prize Distribution, at 05:30 P.M. on 12 November 2022 at RMD Degree College, Patia, Bhubaneswar. Top 4 players from both categories (OPEN & GIRLS) will represent Odisha in Forthcoming National Sub Junior Chess Championship 2022, starting from 27 November to 6 December 2022 at New Delhi.

GIRLS Category:
The top seed Yashita Rout, 1780 from Khordha, clinched the Championship trophy with 5.5 / 6.0 points (5 win 1 draw with no loss). The 3rd seed Jayalakshmi Sahoo of Cuttack beat Sahana Lenka of Khordha, becoming Runner-up with 5 points (5 win & 1 loss) . Krishna Arpita, Khordha beat Rutushree Rutuprava, Dhenkanal secured 3rd position. 
 
OPEN Category:
Open category was really hard for all top players. The 3rd seed Priansh Das, Jajpur drew with Arin Anwesh Swain of Khordha & clinched the Championship trophy. Arin Anwesh Swain became the Runner-up. On 2nd board top seed Koustuv Dash, Khordha drew Anubrata Priyadarshan Sahu, Mayurbhanj & became 2nd Runner-up.

The top seeded Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, 2332 of Puri stayed unbeaten in the entire championship & scored 7.5 out of 8, beat Tapan Badamundi, clinched the Championship trophy with a cash prize of  10,000/-. The third seed Rajesh Nayak, 2183, Puri drew with the 2nd seed FIDE Master Soumyaranjan Mishra scored 6.5 with 5 wins & 3 draws with tiebreak positioned Runner-up & awarded   7,000/- . The 8th seed Koustuv Dash, 1873 of Khordha, became 2nd Runner-up & bagged 5,000 with Trophy 6 wins, 1 draw. Finally, the top four players will represent Odisha in forthcoming National Senior Chess Championship 2022, which will be held at New Delhi on 22 December 2022 for the prize amount of ₹ 30,00,000/- (Thirty lacs).

The Championship concluded with Valedictory ceremony-cum-Prize Distribution, at 08:00 P.M. on 08 November 2022.
