64th Odisha State Senior FIDE Rating (Open) Chess Championship 2024 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr Abinash Samal, Social Worker at 02:00 P.M. Other distinguished guests were IM Swayangsu Satyapragyan, Administrator, Pro-Chess-Ta, Sri Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary, AOCA; Sri Suryakant Bisoi, EC member, AOCA; Sandeep Samantaray, EC Member, AOCA; Sri Laxmi Prasad Pattnaik, Member DDCA. Chief Guest Abinash Samal, Social Worker inaugurated the Tournament by moving the pieces on the chess board.
The fifty thousand (₹50,000/-) prize money attracts only 120 participants from 15 districts with 76 International Rated players and 23 women players. Nine rounds Swiss system league were played with a time control of 90 minutes with 30 sec increments from move no.1.
The final game fourth seed vs second seed came out with draw. The second seeded Harshit Ranjan Sahu of Cuttack scored 7.5 points (7 win, 1 draw & 1 loss) with tie-break and clinched the Championship trophy with a cash prize of ₹10,000/-. The tie break decided the position of 1, 2 & 3 position. The top seed seed Koustuv Dash, Khordha beat Jagdish Barik & became 2nd with 7.5 points (7 win, 1 draw & 1 loss) bagged ₹7,000/- and 4th seed Tapan Badamundi scored 7.5 points (6 win & 3 draw) remain unbeaten in entire tournament and became 3rd position (with tie-break) & bagged ₹5,000/- and trophy.
The Championship concluded with Valedictory ceremony-cum-Prize Distribution, at 08:30 P.M. on 31st July 2024. The Chief Guest was Sri Jayanti Patra, Chairman, Dhenkanal Municipality, Guest of Honour Sri Harekrushna Kar, President Rotary Club, Sri Rajanikant Tarai, Educationist, Sri Durga Prasad Dwibedi, Sri Nabin Chandra Narayan Dash, President, DDCA & Sri Sankar Prasad Mishra, Treasurer, AOCA, Smt. Sagarika, Er Debabrata Bhatta graced the occasion & distribute the prizes. We had considerable support from the parents and guardians of the kid participants.
The Championship was conducted by the Chief Arbiter Bhabesh Mohanty, International Arbiter ably assisted by, Dy Chief IA Santosh Kumar Mohapatra & NA Sandeep Samantray. Mr. Sandeep Samantray, National Arbiter got the FA Norm in this tournament.
