The Odisha State Uder 17 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2025 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Smt. Alaka Mohanty, Ex-MLA, Brajarajnagar; Other dignitaries were Sri M.L. Sidar, Staff Officer, Minning MCL, Brajraj Nagar, Sri Trinath Gual, President, District BAR Association; Sri Brijesh Sharma, Vice President, District Athletic Association; Sri Kesha Ranjan Pradhan, Secretary, Bargarh District Chess Association; Sri Bhabesh Mohanty, International Arbiter, Jt. Secretary, All Odisha Chess Association; Sri Kishore Mohanty, President; Smt. Padmini Singh, Secretary, Jharsuguda Chess Association; IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo, Chief Arbiter.

The total no of participants (96) from 9 districts had taken part in this event. Seventeen rated players in Open and only eight rated players were participated in Girls championship. Eight rounds Swiss system league was played with a time control of 90 min. with 30 sec increments from move no.1.
The total prize fund for above captioned event were ` 20,000/- (Rupees twenty thousand only). The organiser arranged with FREE dormitory Accommodation + Paid hygienic lunch to players & accompanying for entire tournament period.
In the Open category, second-seeded Manish Mishra from Khordha, with a rating of 1831, remained unbeaten throughout the championship. He scored 7.5 out of 8 points (7 wins, 1 draw) and clinched the Championship trophy along with a cash prize of ₹2,000. The top seed, Stitaprangya Sahoo from Khordha, lost to Manish in the fifth round and became the runner-up by scoring 7 points (7 wins, 1 loss), earning a cash prize of ₹1,400.
In the Girls category, Shradha Smaranika Nanda from Cuttack, with a rating of 1673, defeated the top seed and Commonwealth medallist Yashita Rout. Shradha remained unbeaten, scoring 6.5 points (5 wins, 3 draws), and clinched the Girls Championship trophy along with a cash prize of ₹2,000. Yashita Rout, the first seed, also scored 6.5 points (6 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss). The tie-breaker determined the Champion and runner-up rankings.
Unfortunately, both the top seeds in the Open and Girls categories, who were the runners-up in the State Under-17 Championship last year (2024), continued to be runners-up in 2025. Finally, the top two players will represent Odisha in forthcoming National under 17 OPEN & GIRLS Chess Championship 2025.
All guests, whether attending the opening ceremony, round inauguration, or closing ceremony, are being honoured by the Jharsuguda District Chess Association.

The Championship concluded with a Valedictory ceremony-cum-Prize Distribution at 06:00 P.M. on 02nd September 2025. The Chief Guest was Sj. Shraddhakar Kumbhar, Tehsildar, Lkahanpur. The Guest of Honour was Sj. Satyaranjan Pattnaik, President, AOCA; Er. Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary, AOCA; Sj. Krishna Gopal Sitani, Chairman, Brajrajnagar Municipality; Sj. Bijay Kumar Mundra, Vice President, Jharsuguda District Badminton Association; Sj. Biswajit Sarangi, President BJP Yuva Morcha; Sj. Jayant Dixit, President, Jharsuguda District Chemist & Druggist Association. Sj. Pratap Chandra Behera, Ex. Principal, B.N. College, Brjn, L.N. College, President JSG Badminton. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion on the last day were Sj. Bhabesh Mohanty, Jt. Secretary, AOCA; Sj. Kishore Mohanty, President, JDCA; Vice President JDCA; Mrs. Padmini Singh, Secretary, JDCA; Sj. Praksh Sahoo, Jt. Secretary, JDCA. We also received considerable support from the parents and guardians of the kid participants.
