The Odisha State Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2025, organized by the Triple ‘C’ Chess Club, under the aegis of the All Odisha Chess Association and with support from the Department of Sports & Youth Services, commenced with great enthusiasm at the Synergy Institute of Technology, Seminar Hall, Phulnakhara, on Saturday.

The championship was inaugurated at 2:00 PM in the presence of players, officials, and members of the organizing committee. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Aswini Kumar Mohanty, Principal, Synergy Institute of Technology, as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Er. Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary, All Odisha Chess Association; Dr. Dharanidhar Sahu, Principal, Synergy Polytechnic; Sri Laxmikanta Pradhan, Administrative Officer, Synergy; Sri Biswajit Ray, President, Triple ‘C’ Chess Club; and Sri Suresh Chandra Sahoo, International Arbiter and Chief Arbiter of the tournament.

The championship was formally inaugurated by Dr. Aswini Kumar Mohanty, who symbolically began the event by making the ceremonial first move on the chessboard.

The two‑day championship comprises state selection matches, conducted in eight rounds under the Rapid time control of 15 minutes with a 10‑second increment from move one. A total of 65 players, including 37 international rated players and seven girls, are participating in the event, representing 11 districts across Odisha.

The tournament carries a total prize fund of ₹20,000 for Rapid and ₹10,000 for Blitz categories.

After the completion of the fifth round of the Rapid eventLavyaajyoti Routray, (Kendrapara) and Shreyas Shuvam Patnaik (Cuttack) are jointly leading the standings with five points eachFakir Majhi (Rayagada) follows closely with 4.5 points, while Nilsu Pattnayak, Soyam Laxmidatt D Sabat, IM Rakesh Kumar Jena, Aryan Behera, Omm Aditya Khadanga, and Nivrita Pattnaik are tied with four points each.

2nd day… (Rapid: Round 6,7&8 | Blitz: All 8 Rounds started at 1:40 PM on 1st Mar 2026)

In the Rapid ChampionshipShreyash Shuvam Patnaik of Cuttack emerged as Champion, while Aryan Behera of Jajpur secured the Runner‑up position. In the Blitz ChampionshipAryan Behera of Jajpur claimed the title, with Lavyaajyoti Routray of Kendrapara finishing as Runner‑up.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by the presence of Sri Laxmikanta Pradhan, Administrative Officer, Synergy Institute of Technology, and Sri Samarendra Sahoo, Sports Officer, Synergy Institute of Technology, along with Sri Biswajit Ray, President, Triple C Chess Club & Chief Arbiter IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo.

The top two players in both Rapid and Blitz categories have qualified to represent Odisha at the forthcoming National RAPID & BLITZ Chess Championships 2025–26, scheduled to be held at Sarala Birla University, Ranchi, Jharkhand, from 11th to 13th March 2026. The Prize lists are attached.

The championship was conducted smoothly under the able officiating of Chief Arbiter IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo of Puri assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Tapas Kumar Mohanty, Cuttack; FA Abhisek Acharya, Mayurbhanj and FA Suraj Kumar Moharana (Bhubaneswar).
