Top 2 players from both the categories have been selected to represent Odisha in forthcoming National Under 11, which will be held at Indoor Stadium, Urwa, Mangaluru from 2-8 August 2026
The Odisha State Under-11 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2026 was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Sj. Suryabanshi Suraj, Hon’ble Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Higher Education, Culture, and Odia Language & Literature. The ceremony was also graced by Sj. Golaka Mohapatra, Vice-President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Odisha; Sri Kishore Kumar Panda, President, Kendrapada District Chess Association; Sri Durga Prasanna Nayak, MLA, Mahakalapada; Sj. Manoj Sahu, Managing Director, Manoj The Non-Veg World, Infocity Road, Patia, Bhubaneswar; Sri Satya Ranjan Pattanaik, President, All Odisha Chess Association; and Sri Bhabesh Mohanty, Joint Secretary, All Odisha Chess Association.

A total of 178 participants from 14 districts took part in the event, comprising 133 players in the Open category and 45 players in the Girls category. The Open category featured 32 rated players, while the Girls category included 10 rated players. Both championships were conducted over eight rounds using the Swiss league system, with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one. The total prize fund for the above-mentioned event was ₹30,000/- (Rupees thirty thousand only).

In the Open category, the top six players each scored 6.5 points, and the final standings were decided by tie-breaks. The 23rd seed, Raghav Biswal, drew with Hrudesh Panigrahi of Ganjam in the final round and remained unbeaten throughout the championship, scoring 6.5 out of 8 points with 5 wins and 3 draws. With a rating of 1465, he secured the Championship trophy along with a cash prize of ₹3,500/-. The fourth seed, Satya Swarup Tripathy of Khordha, defeated Barnit Bitan Mohanty and also remained unbeaten, finishing with 6.5 points from 5 wins and 3 draws to claim the Runner-up trophy and a cash prize of ₹2,500/-. The second seed, Adya Advit Das rated 1647, won his final-round game against Pragyan Mishra, ending with 6.5 points from 5 wins and 3 draws and earning the Second Runner-up trophy along with a cash prize of ₹1,500/-.

In the Girls category, top seed Arnica Dash of Khordha, rated 1602, delivered an outstanding performance by remaining unbeaten and scoring 7.5 points from 7 wins and 1 draw to claim the Championship trophy. The 9th seed, Preetika Pradhan, defeated the 2nd seed, Pratyakhyaa Shambhavi, and secured the Runner-up position with 6.5 points from 5 wins and 3 draws, earning a cash prize of ₹1,400/-. The 8th seed, Snehasmita Ram of Cuttack, defeated Adishree Budek and finished with 6 points from 6 wins and 2 losses, taking home the Second Runner-up trophy along with a cash prize of ₹1,500/-.
Finally, the top two players from each category will represent Odisha in the forthcoming National Under-11 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2026, scheduled to be held from 2nd to 8th August 2026 at Mangaluru, Karnataka.
All guests who attended the opening ceremony, round inaugurations, and closing ceremony were honoured by the All Odisha Chess Association.

The championship concluded with a valedictory ceremony and prize distribution at 5:30 P.M. on 21st June 2026. The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Sj. Gokulananda Mohapatra, Vice-President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Odisha Pradesh, and the Guest of Honour, GM Debasis Das, the first Grandmaster of Odisha and the 34th Grandmaster of India. Also present were Sj. Satyaranjan Pattnaik, President, All Odisha Chess Association and Sri Bhabesh Mohanty, Assistant Secretaries of the All Odisha Chess Association. Other distinguished attendees included Mr. Subhasis Pattnaik, Secretary, Khordha District Chess Association; IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo, Chief Arbiter; IA Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, Deputy Chief Arbiter; Mr. Bikram Keshari Biswal, Founder, MCF; and Mr. Lalat Keshari Samal. Their inspiring speeches motivated the gathering, and they presented prizes to the winners. The organizers also expressed their sincere appreciation for the enthusiastic support extended by the parents and guardians of the young participants.

The championship was conducted by Chief Arbiter IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo, who was ably assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Santosh Kumar Mohapatra and SNA Bhajamana Sahoo of Bharsuja, Odisha, who earned an FA Norm in the Open event.
